Build the Bobcat CLG

In this issue of Model Aviation, on page 88, Don DeLoach honors the life and accomplishments of Tim Batiuk, a National Free Flight Society (NFFS) Free Flight (FF) Hall of Famer, as well as the designer of the Bobcat, an 18-inch Catapult FF glider.

Tim’s Bobcat design is engineered for competitive FF performance and has already proven itself as a winner, having won competitions such as the Southern California Aero Team Annual. The model’s weight ranges from 23 to 28 grams and has the airfoil positioned at a high point for optimal lift. The fuselage uses Stan Buddenbohm’s Catapult design and a basswood pivot block with a 1/8-inch rivet pivot system.

In honor of Tim’s FF legacy, why not give building his Bobcat a try? Plans for the Bobcat CLG can be downloaded at modelaviation.com/article/free-flight-life. Test your skills and try your best to beat Tim’s various records. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be the one to beat his 21-year winning streak for the NFFS National Cup Glider competition.

The AMA Foundation Celebrates GivingTuesday!

Did you know that the Tuesday following Thanksgiving is GivingTuesday? Founded in 2012, GivingTuesday is a worldwide day of giving, where people are granted the opportunity to make generous gifts to causes that they care about. Throughout the years and across the globe, billions of dollars have been raised for nonprofit organizations, such as AMA, in celebration of the spirit of giving.

This year, GivingTuesday is celebrated on December 2. The AMA Foundation has set a fundraising goal of $15,000 to help support AMA’s programs, such as scholarships, the National Model Aviation Museum, the Flying Site Improvement Grant and other grants, building the Foundation’s endowment, and so much more.

Helping to make GivingTuesday as successful as possible is Pink Ribbon Good (PRG), an organization dedicated to supporting individuals who have been diagnosed with breast and gynecological cancers. PRG provides free meals, rides to treatment, housecleaning essentials, and peer support for cancer patients across the country each year, and the AMA Foundation is proud to partner with the organization this year. In celebration of the partnership, 10% of all funds raised on GivingTuesday will be donated to PRG.

To find out more about the AMA Foundation’s efforts on GivingTuesday, or to make a donation of your own this holiday season, visit amafoundation.modelaircraft.org/givingtuesday-2025. As always, we thank you for your generous support, not only for model aviation but also for the causes our community helps to support.
