District IV wishes one and all the merriest of holiday seasons; go buy a kid a model airplane. Yep, you heard me right. For AMA to continue being the leading community-based organization (CBO) serving our membership, we need everyone—youth, parents, and young adults—to become involved. Flying an airplane on a computer is not nearly as thrilling as flying the real thing outside, and everyone in the whole family can participate. All AMA members need to look to find new friends and welcome them into our hobby.
I’m sure there will be a multitude of fun holiday club parties this year, so email me a report along with some pictures and share with the rest of us how you celebrated.
We received the following report celebrating RC flying in our community from Greg Gee, the vice president of the Winston-Salem RC Club (WSRC: wsrconline.com; facebook.com/wsrcclub).
The third annual TRIAD Spring RC Celebration was held at the WSRC club field located in Mocksville, North Carolina, on June 7, 2025. Despite a forecast for afternoon showers, 39 pilots attended, along with a very strong spectator contingent from the community. Among the spectators were plenty of kids who thoroughly enjoyed the show!
It turned out to be a beautiful day filled with great airplanes, great pilots demonstrating their flying skills, and great food and fun! The grill produced some of the best hot dogs and hamburgers you will find anywhere. Pilots from at least seven clubs in the triad area were in attendance. Our area clubs working together and supporting each other’s events were exactly what we had hoped for when we started this event three years ago.
Our field features two pavilions and pit areas with electricity, a clubhouse, and 700 feet of well-maintained grass runway with a small geotextile runway. Many assembly, starting, and runup benches that were custom-built by our members are available. Our field is an FAA Recognized Identification Area (FRIA) with an altitude ceiling of up to 700 feet above ground level. Overnight camping is also allowed for events.
We’re looking forward to the TRIAD Fall RC Celebration, a fly-in event jointly put on with the Greensboro RC Aeromodelers (GRAMS: gramsrc.org; facebook.com/groups/1160007725140103) at the GRAMS flying field located in Browns Summit, North Carolina.
Go fly and have fun safely.
