December 2025 - District XI

Hi all. It’s been a busy summer but lots of fun.

Let’s get to it.

First, I mentioned last month that I finished my new jet. It’s a Boomerang RC Jets Atom and it turned out very well. I found a gently used KingTech K-142G4+ turbine engine to power it, and this turned out to be a great choice—perfect for flying from a grass field. The airplane itself is a joy to fly; it’s light, maneuverable, easy to see, and lands like a dream. I said several times that this is so much fun that it should be illegal! Here are some pictures:

I’ve been keeping a logbook for my turbine flying this year so that I can qualify to help approve others for their turbine waivers. I have logged more than 75 turbine flights and have burned more than 25 gallons of Jet A fuel. I’m having a lot of fun with this new aspect of our hobby. Call or write to me if you need any information or help.

Next, I competed in the NorthWest Scale Aero-Modellers Championship held at Weaver’s Field in Othello, Washington. This competition is the main event for our Scale fliers in the Northwest. Attendance was down a bit this year, but we still had 24 entries, including seven entries in our entry-level class!

I really enjoyed this competition and will continue to compete in it. If you are interested in RC Scale flying, visit nwscale.orgfor more information. My goal next year is to fly RC Scale in the 100th AMA Nats. Here are some pictures (including one of my trophies):

That’s all for this month. Summer is ending, but I’m not through yet. I’m planning a visit to a field in Oregon to see whether we can support a Jamboree there next year. I also have a trip to Muncie, Indiana, for an Executive Council meeting, and I’m going to do some more flying before next month. Keep building and flying!
