Hi all. This year is flying by (pun intended), and I can’t believe another month is over. I am currently completing my "escape" to District X and heading home. The NW Model Hobby Expo in Monroe, Washington, is my next stop. Meanwhile, I have visited more than a few fields and have learned about bigger events. I’m happy to have had the opportunity; it has been a dream for a long time.
I want to mention the last two events. First was the Arizona Scale Aviation Airshow at the Sun Valley Fliers’ field in Phoenix. This event was hosted by Bonnie and Brian O’Meara; they did a great job. It was very hot but still well attended. The most impressive thing I saw was that Bonnie and Brian gave out three awards to the youngest pilots who participated. The award included a new Spektrum iX14 transmitter! What a great way to promote younger pilots! Here are some pictures:
Next, I went down to the Tucson Jet Rally at the Tucson International Modelplex Park Association field in Tucson, Arizona. Debbie and Clay Sherrow hosted this great event. All of the funds raised went to the Ryan M. Sherrow Memorial Scholarship that is managed by the AMA Foundation. This was another great event that had a lot of awesome jets and good flying. I’ve included some photos of it as well.
I was also able to maiden my retirement gift, a Boomerang RC Jets Atom Squared! It was a great flight, and I’m looking forward to many more.
I want to reach out to the newer members and say: Attend as many events as you can, even if you don’t feel comfortable participating! Events are when we can really showcase our wonderful hobby; you will see and learn many new things and meet a lot of new people. I attend as many events as I can, so look for me and my rig (it’s hard to miss!). If I’m there, I would be happy to meet and talk with you.
That’s it for this month. There’s much more to come. Keep building and flying!
