September 2025 - District II

The Mercer County Radio Control Society (MCRCS) is an AMA-chartered club located near Lake Assunpink in the Assunpink Wildlife Management Area near Imlaystown, New Jersey.

As the club’s website states, "Our focus is radio-controlled flying models, and the range of models we fly is quite broad, extending from small, electric foam planes through giant-scale models with wingspans as great as 19 feet. We have been an organized club for more than 50 years and fly at Warren Kruse Field on the edge of Lake Assunpink.

"MCRCS membership is open to anyone who would like to fly radio-controlled airplanes. We currently have roughly 85 members residing across most of central New Jersey and part of Pennsylvania. If you are new to the sport, come by the field any Saturday or Sunday afternoon to see what this sport is about and talk with some of our skilled pilots.

"We also encourage anyone to come to one of our events or just stop in at one of our meetings. Both newbies and experienced fliers are welcome. We encourage prospective members, and those who are AMA members, to fly as guests at our field, as long as they are accompanied by a current club member."

The club sponsors several community events each year. The MCRCS Jumbo Jamboree is a Giant Scale air show, with proceeds donated to the Sunshine Foundation, a unique children’s charity, the only national wish-granting charity that answers the dreams or wishes of children with lifelong chronic illnesses or conditions.

Recently, the MCRCS participated in a special day for Scouts. The following is from Brian Hoffman, event coordinator and MCRCS club treasurer:

On July 7, we were happy to participate in the Washington Crossing Council Cub Day Camp, Passport to Adventure. Our membership was represented by President Brian Bunda, Membership Coordinator Irwin Keshner, member Stephen Baker, and me. We brought a wide range of airplanes, helicopters, kits, and magazines to show the young participants how they can enjoy model aviation. The Cub Scouts asked a lot of great questions about the models, model construction, and ways to get involved.

Stephen Baker was a hit with the more than 50 Cub Scouts, sharing his fantastic collection of helicopters as well as his Lombardi Trophy for his Super Bowl win. Special thanks to Melissa Andrie, who coordinated the event and invited us to participate. We extended an invitation for the fall to show the Cub Scouts our hobby in action at our AMA-sanctioned field.
