In January, I received the news of the passing of Mike Cross. The following is a remembrance from Colorado Associate Vice President Mark Dennis.
Mike Cross was a cherished member of the Longmont Area Modelers Association (LAMA) and the greater RC flying community throughout Northern Colorado. Known for his friendly nature, he genuinely enjoyed talking with fellow club members, sharing stories, assisting with aircraft, supporting an event, or simply being there when someone needed him.
He was also the club’s photographer, faithfully capturing moments from countless flying events at LAMA and around the Colorado area. He shared the pictures with anyone who asked. He always passed the best on to us for AMA use. He received a District Service Award a few years ago for this and for the unselfish work he did for clubs in the area.
Mike was well known for his events calendar. Each year, he compiled a catalog of everything happening in all of the clubs along the front range. Everyone found value in that.
Our condolences to Mike’s family.
Here’s an Indoor event that looks like a lot of fun. This comes from the 2026 International Indoor Fun Fly hosted by the Red River RC Flyers (RRRCF) of Grand Forks, North Dakota.
A landing area is defined, as you can see here, with chairs and ribbon. Once the airplanes are in the air, they play musical chairs, but when the music stops, the last one to land or land outside of the area is eliminated until only one airplane is left.
The International Indoor Fun Fly always features many laidback, creative aerial activities for the participants. And why not? We’ve talked about this event throughout the years because it is held in the Alerus Center in Grand Forks. They are allowed to utilize this 18,000-seat indoor event arena partly because of the club members volunteering their time as parking attendants for concerts and sporting events throughout the year. The club does a great job hosting a wonderful Indoor event in an amazing place to fly!
