Although it has been several months, I’d like use this column to add my thoughts to the long list of those who are mourning the loss of Tim Jesky. Tim was the kind of person on which the foundation of AMA is built. I had the privilege of working with him on many occasions and will treasure those memories. My condolences to the Jesky family.
The following is from Cliff Davis of the Lincoln Sky Knights in Lincoln, Nebraska.
In February, the Sky Knights held its annual auction at the Waverly Community Center in Waverly, Nebraska. Some relatively pleasant weather probably helped the turnout, and the event was a great success. A lot of happy buyers and sellers found many bargains.
Thanks to all of the Sky Knight members and the Omahawks RC Club for their help and support.
Here is a report on the jet event in Thermopolis, Wyoming, from Wyoming Associate Vice President Craig Bastion.
Last September, there were 39 registered pilots who attended the fifth annual Thermopolis Fly In. This location is just outside of Thermopolis, Wyoming, at the Hot Springs County Airport, where there is a beautiful backdrop of the Wind River Mountains to the west. The RC jet pilots love this event because the runway is actually the full-scale taxiway. Pilots who attended came from Colorado, Montana, South Dakota, and our home state of Wyoming.
Saturday started out with a free pancake and sausage breakfast (sponsored by the Thermopolis-Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce) for the RC and full-scale pilots. This was followed by lunch with a food truck on-site. A potluck dinner was free, with the main dishes of smoked chicken, smoked pork, and corn on the cob.
Approximately 90% of the flying consisted of turbine jets and EDFs. The remainder of the flying was a smattering of gassers, electrics, nitro, and gliders. The flightline was busy all day, with only small pauses for full-scale aircraft to take off and land. Event directors with two-way radios always monitored the full-scale air traffic.
A huge shoutout goes to the Billings Flying Mustangs, from Billings, Montana, as the event sponsor; Contest Directors Art Mulkey and Dennis Rollings from Billings; Hot Springs County Airport Manager Nate Messenger; Jerry Umbdenstock, for the use of his hangar; and all of the support during this whole event. I want to also thank the folks who donated food for this event.
Here’s a great shot from the Jefco Aeromod’lers RC Club in Denver, Colorado.
We listed many clubs in District IX that celebrated the beginning of 2026, but the Jefco group certainly did it right.
